No. 29:                       Does you Management system include Access Control?

Space Manager does not include an access control system. This is simply because there are a broad range of access systems already available on the market, purpose built for self-storage sites.

Instead we have concentrated on seamlessly interfacing and managing as many of these access systems as possible, and we are always looking to interface with more.

Once connected to an interface system, Space Manager can manage the user’s passcode, the times they are allowed to enter the site, the keypads they can use and their access status. Space manager can automatically deny them access for late payment and grant it again when required.

We believe that separating the access control and site management system can have other important benefits. With combined systems or systems which are reliant on a common computer, should that computer fail, the site loses both access control and management.

By separating these systems, should the management computer fail, site access control would still be active without customers being necessarily aware of a problem.

In the same manner, should the access system fail and lose all its information, once repaired, Space manger can download full customer, passcode and unit status information to it, quickly and simply. Thus getting the access system up and running as soon as possible, with the minimum disruption.

By interfacing with existing access systems, users have the flexibility to choose the best access system for the job, without having to scarify one part of a site’s management to get the other part they need.

Space Manager currently interfaces with the following access systems:

1.      PTi Access Control System

2.      Quickstor

3.      MSTC Dos

4.      Doug West Digigate 700

5.      Knighthood SAS Access System

In a multi-site installation, each site can have their own access system setup allowing for a single company wide installation, with remote sites working individually or together with their own access systems and setups.

Individual Site management is performed by selecting a Site from the ‘Maintenance’ Menu. In the case of a standalone installation, only one site needs to be defined. Within the Site setup, various options can be set including configuration for image capture and the installed access control system. If the desired access system is not available, it can usually be added with the assistance of the access system vendor.
