Aug 19 2004 -

Changes are afoot in the industry in the way that Self Storage companies must handle insurance. It appears that from the middle of January 2005, many operators will no longer be ‘selling’ insurance in the manner they once did and so will need to be able to deal with these changes within the space management program they use.

We have been in consultation with the UK Self Storage Association in order to work out the simplest way to deal with these changes.

What we have concluded is that, as operators will still need to be able to account and report on insurance, we would not change the existing method of setting up insurance and managing it with the program.

Instead we would allow the operator to combine insurance and rental charges into a single figure when printing Invoices, Credit Notes and Contracts. For Space Manager for Windows users, this requires only a minor change to their Document Templates and we would ask these users to contact RADical Systems at their convenience so that we can arrange to make this change for them.

However, for Space Manager Standalone users, a program update will be required which will add the necessary Parameters to turn on this new facility and the new Print Markers required for documentation.

This core programming is now complete and all that is required is for the new release to complete its comprehensive testing and evaluation phase.

So that users can have an opportunity to test out this new facility and provide us with any feedback, we hope to have version 1.40D(p) available for download by the end of September 2004.

In the meantime a new version of the Print Markers Booklet is available for download for use with this new version. It can either be downloaded from the File/Utilities page or by clicking here. Please note that only the Contract Print Markers are affected.

The Web Site is definitely getting close to the top of my list! However, success seems to come with a price - we are now doing as many Space manager for Windows installs as we can and are just about keeping up with demand.

With time going by in a blur at the moment, I was most surprised to find that Catherine has been with us for over a year now!

Anyway, with the Big Yellow roll out of Space Manager for Windows now complete, things should settle down nicely now and so give us time to re-vamp the web sites.

October 24 2003 -

Apologies to everyone for the total lack of updates to this site – its simply been that we are unbelievably busy, with Space Manager for Windows installations and additions taking almost every minute of every day! Be assured that we will update the site just as soon as we have a spare moment!

Part of the minimum recommended specification for Space Manager 4 Windows is some form of remote connectivity. This is to ensure that our support department can offer the best possible level of service and it is particularly important when we are performing remote conversions of Space Manager Standalone, supplying support services or updates to document templates and reports, to accommodate ordered features.

We would therefore ask all users to please ensure that the computer onto which Space Manager 4 Windows is to be installed has remote connectivity, email (Space Manager updates are notified by email) and internet access (Space Manager updates are available for download from the internet) available before installation commences.

Below are details of the two remote connectivity options which we have found to be most effective:

1. Symantec PC AnyWhere - We require only the Host version of the program, but users may like to have the remote portion as well so that they can connect themselves from another PC. Please make sure that the version is fully compatible with the version of the Operating System on your PC.

PC AnyWhere is most appropriate when connection is only available via a modem. Please make sure that the modem can receive incoming calls (that the line will not be answered by a fax for instance) and that you know the telephone number!

Whilst this method can be used to connect via the internet, it rarely works through a firewall and can be troublesome as each time a dial-up connection to the internet is made the PC is given a different 'internet' address, which we would need to know to complete the connection.

2. GoToMyPc - This is the ideal choice if you have a broadband 'always on' internet connection. It has the advantage that it can be used on PCs behind a company firewall, although it may not work with Internet connection sharing (like that supplied with Windows 98, 2000 and XP - a workstation must be able to 'ping' the internet).

It is however a subscription service and so regular monthly or yearly fees are payable. However, there is no software to install, it just requires an ordinary browser. More information can be found at www.gotomypc.com.

This is the option we use at RADical Systems because it also allows remote control, providing the stringent security is passed, from anywhere there is a internet connection available, even an internet cafe!

Please note, however, that this option is not suitable for a modem connection at it is simply far too slow.

IMPORTANT - Please also be aware that there is a minimum specification for the Space Manager 4 Windows PC itself and this can be found at the end of the
FAQ section on the RADicalIQX website. For addional information, please contact RADical Systems on +44 (0)1483 453880.

Space Manager 4 Windows is now shipping!.

The last few months has seen us all with our heads down working all hours to complete the large number of support documents and utilities needed to make the 'Space Manager 4 Windows' package complete. This includes General, Status and Accounting reports, Manuals and Sample Scenarios training books, sample document templates, data conversion utilities just to name a few.

However, this is now done and we are delighted to be able to start the long process of rolling out this exciting new program to both new and existing customers. We are therefore in the process of a staged roll-out of standalone installations, multi-site standalone installations and central database WAN installations.

We hope to be able to get to all who would like to convert to the new program as soon as possible, but there is much to do, so please bare with us!

Some Space Manager users have expressed a desire to continue with Space Manager Standalone for the foreseeable future. Just to put those minds at rest, we will not be withdrawing this program from our portfolio but will continue to supply and support it.

Should you have any questions or queries, or require further information please send and email to enquiries@radicaliqx.co.uk
