Selecting the Desktop Button Hangs Space Manager

Hint Ref: 020812020010
Hint Date: 02/12/2008

Hint Details:

ISSUE:

Under Sybase 10.0.1, Space Manager appeared to hang for a user, when they selected the 'Desktop' button, or another user tried to display their diary. This issue only appeared to affect Windows XP PCs, connected to a central Database Server and only began after a new diary appointment was added.

When the database was local to Space Manager everything worked correctly. Also installing the lasted Sybase EBF did not solve the problem.

SOLUTION:

The solution was to amend the ODBC settings for the affected workstations.  Both of the following two options were affective, however Option 1 will adversely affect performance;

1. Edit the Sybase 10 ODBC and on the 'Advanced' tab, remove the tick for 'Allow multiple record fetching'

2. Edit the Sybase 10 ODBC and on the 'Network' tab enable 'Compress network packets'

IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT A FULL AND VALID SPACE MANAGER DATABASE BACKUP IS TAKEN AND VERIFIED AS VALID BEFORE MAKING ANY CHANGES TO THE DATABASE.)
